The first Sicklinghall Ladies' Evening, held on 8th March 2012 at the Village Hall, raised £455 for the Village Hall Renovation Appeal.
Over 70 people came through the doors on the night, with young and old alike hailing the evening as a great success and a lovely chance to get the ladies of the village together.
Local small businesses were on hand to offer a wide range of goods and services, including flowers, gifts, clothes, jewellery, greetings cards, photography, toiletries and holistic products, handbags, cushions and throws, and much more. The Friends of Alfie Martin charity was also represented.
Organiser, Claire Slater (right), was delighted with the positive comments she received, and sends her thanks to all those who helped make this such an enjoyable and successful evening.

After the downpours over the Bank Holiday weekend, Sicklinghall residents breathed a sigh of relief on Monday 4th June when they awoke to clear blue skies and sunshine.
The village hall grounds were bedecked with red white and blue flags, plus a model of the Queen and two corgis to oversee proceedings! A jazz band played throughout the sunny afternoon, as families and friends gathered to enjoy an afternoon of village style entertainment.
Children bounced on the bouncy castle and ran many different races, including a 'dressing up as a Queen' race. Adults too were challenged into competing, the highlight being a boisterous three-legged race. These energetic activities ended with a traditional village tug of war. By this time athletes and spectators were ready for a picnic, but not before everyone raised their glasses to toast the Queen.
The entertainment continued into the evening when live music and disco enticed many on to the dance floor, ensuring that Sicklinghall Jubilee celebrations finished on a high.
August Bank Holiday Monday 2012
was a day of double celebration, with Sicklinghall’s Annual Field Day and
a ceremony to mark 60 years of the Village
Hall.
The persistent rain did not dampen the spirits of the 250 souls who came to enjoy the stalls, competitions, music and refreshments. For many the highlight of the day was the brief ceremony to mark the Village Hall’s 60th anniversary, with Sicklinghall resident Mary Hobson unveiling a brass plaque at the main door. (Photo is of Mary, with Village Hall Chairman Neville Balmer). Mary was involved in the original fundraising to build the hall, and was on the committee when it was built in 1952.
With proceeds of the day earmarked for the Village Hall Renovation Appeal, the wet weather had threatened to spoil the proceedings, but villagers, visitors, friends and family saved the day by turning out in numbers and in great spirit to lend their support.
Many thanks to all who attended, to all who donated prizes for the raffle and tombolas, and to all who helped prepare and man the stalls. We are also very grateful to those who made specific donations to the Village Hall appeal. A tiring day – but enjoyed by all.

Sicklinghall Village Halll was most definitely the place to be on Saturday 17 November 2012, as Vocal duo Swing Thing wowed a packed room with a powerful performance full of classic American Songbook numbers.
The Hall was magically decked out in Vegas style, and Swing Thing also brought their own amazing light show that added to the wonderful atmosphere.
The duo's two sets came either side of a lively hour of casino games, with all proceeds from the night going to the Village Hall Renovation Appeal.

There was a packed house for our fantastic St Patrick's dance, with lively music from a great band - the Wild Geese (plus guests!).
The entertainment was non-stop, with dancing all night, including 'Ceili' led by the band. The Irish stew supper was extremely tasty, and was washed down by plenty of the black stuff. (Other colours were available!)
Many thanks to all concerned for another great fund raising night in support of the Renovation Appeal.
15 May 2013
saw a welcome return to Sicklinghall Village Hall by the North of
England Horticultural Society's Harrogate Show Director, Martin
Fish.
Martin was this year joined by his fellow BBC York gardening expert, Nigel Harrison, for a packed evening of plant talk and gardening Q&A.
Together they answered a barrage of questions from the floor, with great humour and much patience!
Before and after the panel, there was a plant sale and stalls of gardening and other gift ideas, from local suppliers and small businesses.
Sicklinghall's own 'Wetherby News' correspondent, Lou Graham, reported:
"The event was a great success, with guests appreciating the expert advice given by the entertaining guest speakers.
There was also a vast array of bedding plants and many came away laden with healthy-looking blooms. The drawing of the gardening-themed raffle brought a very enjoyable evening to a close. Many thanks to all the organisers for arranging such a successful seasonal event."
The committee would also like to thank the many people who came along to support the evening in aid of the Hall's renovation appeal.
Inspired and organised by Claire Slater, during 2013/14 every Sunday evening the Village Hall became the Tower Ballroom, with beginners’ and improvers’ dancing lessons.
The classes were led by Harrogate Dance Centre’s professional dance teacher Darren Hodgson and his dance partner Jane Jones. They put us through our paces in the foxtrot, jive, cha-cha-cha, waltz, and many more besides!
S-E-V-E-N!
Over 80 people came along at various times during the afternoon to see for themselves the transformation of the Village Hall following completion of our extensive renovations.
All were impressed, as much by the free tea and cake kindly baked and donated by our friends and supporters, as by the hall itself!
Jazz Evening and BBQ supper
Saturday, 17th May 2014
Ned Websdale and the Sicklinghall Stompers took to the stage on the warmest night of the year for a great night of good-time Jazz classics.
The capacity crowd enthusiastically showed their appreciation of a wonderful performance, dancing and clapping along throughout and calling for encores at the finale.
The new terrace in particular proved a welcome attraction in the early evening sunshine. Further funds were raised for our continuing refurbishment appeal, through good support for the raffle, the games, and the bar!
A fantastic barbecue supper was included in the ticket price and all-in-all it proved yet another super evening; we hope the first of many at our newly renovated hall.
Many thanks to all who attended.
